Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Salento-Produced Sausages in Campania

Following an investigation by the Caserta ASL, a batch of poultry and turkey sausages has been recalled from Campania supermarkets. A ten-year-old child exhibiting classic salmonellosis symptoms – including nausea, vomiting, fever, and diarrhea – tested positive for Salmonella. Laboratory analysis confirmed the source of the food poisoning as “Scarlino” brand Lecock sausages, manufactured by Scarlino srl in Taurisano, Lecce. The affected lot, 02/03/23 L1, contained ten 100-gram sausages and was distributed throughout Caserta province and wider Campania. The Istituto Zooprofilattico del Mezzogiorno’s testing confirmed the contamination. The ASL advises consumers who may have purchased this product not to eat it and to return it to the point of sale. Authorities emphasize that all sausages should be thoroughly cooked before consumption, as per package instructions.
