Nocerina’s Commanding Victory: Cavallaro’s Cautious Optimism

Following their impressive 4-0 victory over Nola, Nocerina’s coach, Giovanni Cavallaro, addressed the media in a Facebook Live post-match press conference. While pleased with the team’s performance and their strong position in the league standings – boasting the second-best defense and fourth-best offense – he remained grounded. The team’s recent return to action after a COVID-19 enforced layoff of nearly a month presented a challenge, yet the Molossi delivered an excellent display. Cavallaro emphasized the importance of sustained performance, stating that a proper evaluation of their capabilities would require at least fifteen more matches. He highlighted the need for consistent mental fortitude and intensity to establish themselves as a major force in the league. The coach specifically addressed concerns regarding the team’s readiness after the prolonged break, acknowledging initial apprehension about their physical and mental resilience. However, he praised his players’ hunger for success as instrumental in overcoming these concerns. Cavallaro also commented favorably on the contribution of new signing De Julis, emphasizing his preference for mobile, hardworking forwards, a characteristic shared by other key players like Diakitè, Talamo, and Improta. Looking ahead, he acknowledged the upcoming match against Sassari Latte Dolce, a strong contender despite a somewhat inconsistent start, as a significant test. The coach anticipates a challenging encounter but is confident in their home advantage and their ability to dictate play. The absence of fans was also a topic, with Cavallaro expressing his awareness of the passionate Nocerina support and its potential impact on the team. He anticipates a return to full stadiums by late January, contingent on the easing of pandemic restrictions. Finally, he explained his choice to start Volzon in goal over Cappa, clarifying it was a decision based on Cappa’s recent COVID-19 recovery and subsequent lack of training, rather than a reflection of form. He concluded by stating his support for the current protocols regarding COVID-19 outbreaks, deeming the current system of pausing matches only in cases of significant outbreaks – two senior and two junior players – a necessary compromise to ensure the continuation of the season.
